Huw Jones

Huw Jones is an international social innovation leader with over two decades of experience building and scaling high-impact organisations across education, healthcare and international development.

As President of the North Star Foundation Bulgaria, he supports the Board and Executive Team with strategic leadership, governance and philanthropic growth as the Foundation launches a new future-ready school in Burgas.

Alongside this role, Huw is the Founder and President of The Virtual Doctors, the UK’s leading telemedicine charity for primary healthcare and the largest provider of free telemedicine services in Southern Africa. The organisation connects volunteer UK and Zambian doctors with frontline health workers in rural clinics, providing clinical support to a population catchment of over four million people who otherwise have no direct access to a doctor. Under his leadership, The Virtual Doctors has built long-term partnerships with ministries of health, hospitals, universities and international agencies, and has become a globally recognised model for technology-enabled healthcare delivery.

Huw’s career also includes directing social and community development for a major African infrastructure project, leading a national digital education initiative for thousands of schools, and consulting for institutions including the United Nations, World Bank and UK Government. Across this work, he is known for building and supporting credible, well-governed organisations that align visionary goals with operational discipline and donor confidence.

At North Star, Huw brings this same approach to education. He works closely with philanthropic partners to ensure their support delivers measurable, long-term impact, not only in academic achievement, but in children’s confidence, emotional wellbeing, creativity and future opportunity. His focus is on helping NorthStar grow into a financially sustainable, internationally respected model of innovative education for Bulgaria and beyond.

Huw is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and holds an MSc in Environment and International Development from the University of East Anglia.

Let’s build not just a school, but a movement.
